Leading Westminster firm with a distinguished and recognised private client practice. We are seeking a talented Newly Qualified (NQ) Solicitor to join our Private Client team. This is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious lawyer to build a career in a highly regarded team.

About the Team

The Private Client team is widely regarded as one of the leading boutique practices in London, advising high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs), family offices, entrepreneurs, trustees and charities. The team has particular expertise in complex cross-border estate planning and trust structures and UK tax advisory work for international families with connections to the UK. Our clients include prominent families, business owners and individuals with significant UK and global assets.

The Role

As an NQ Solicitor in the Private Client team, you will work alongside partners and senior associates on a varied caseload, gaining exposure to the full breadth of private client work.
Your responsibilities will include:

Estate Planning & Wills

  • Drafting Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs) and related documents for UK and international clients
  • Advising on estate planning strategies to mitigate Inheritance Tax (IHT) and Capital Gains Tax (CGT)
  • Preparing and reviewing letter of wishes and advance decisions
  • Advising on lifetime gifting and gifts with reservation of benefit, and preparing Deeds of Gift

Trusts

  • Assisting with the creation, administration and variation of discretionary, life interest and offshore trusts
  • Advising trustees on their duties, investment powers and tax reporting obligations
  • Preparing trust deeds, deeds of appointment and retirement, deeds of variation and ancillary documents
  • Taxation of Trusts and administrative obligations

Tax

  • Advising on UK income tax, CGT and IHT issues for UK and non-UK residents
  • Assisting with HMRC disclosures and tax investigations
  • Preparing and filing IHT and CGT tax returns with HMRC

Probate & Estate Administration

  • Assisting with the administration of complex UK and cross border estates
  • Preparing applications for Grants of Probate and Letters of Administration
  • Advising personal representatives on their duties and potential liabilities

General

  • Conducting thorough legal research and preparing memoranda of advice
  • Attending client meetings and taking a proactive role in client relationships
  • Contributing to business development activities including seminars, articles, pitches and networking events
  • Maintaining accurate time recording and managing billing in accordance with firm procedures

Person Specification

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified solicitor (or due to qualify imminently) in England and Wales
  • Completed a training contract at a reputable law firm with a seat in private client
  • Strong academic background (minimum 2:1 degree, or equivalent)
  • LPC distinction or commendation preferred or SQE1 and SQE2 passed to a high standard
  • Working towards your STEP qualifications would be a preference

  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities effectively
  • A proactive and collaborative team player with genuine enthusiasm for the work
  • Discretion and sensitivity when handling highly confidential matters
