Rebecca Martin

Solicitor

Rebecca is a Solicitor in our Ecclesiastical, Education, and Charity department. She brings a range of experience in education law, having, prior to joining LBMW, worked for the Catholic Education Service, where she collaborated closely with dioceses, religious orders, and policy officials at the Department for Education.

Rebecca has experience advising Anglican and Catholic dioceses, and secular schools, as well as Multi-Academy Trusts. She is able to advise on matters relating to reverter under the School Sites Acts, s.554 orders, and occupation under s.38 of the Education Act 1921 agreements.

Before joining LBMW, Rebecca served as a Court of Appeal judicial assistant to Lord Justice Flaux, gaining valuable insight into a wide range of commercial appellate work. She contributed to several high-profile cases, including BNP Paribas SA v Trattamento Rifiuti Metropolitani SPA [2019] EWCA Civ 768, Huawei v ZTE [2019] EWCA Civ 38, and Reading BC v Ali [2019] EWHC 200 (Admin).

Rebecca also worked at the Law Commission of England and Wales, where she focused on anti-money laundering and misconduct in public office. She uses this experience to inform her understanding of the regulatory landscape when advising the Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury and various Diocesan Registries.

Rebecca studied law at the University of Sussex and the London School of Economics. She is actively involved in Charity Law Association working groups and is a member of the Charities (Regulation and Administration) (Scotland) Bill and VAT and business rates for independent schools working groups.
