Megan Morgan is a London based Private Client lawyer with more than 10 years of experience representing wealthy individuals and their families for tax and trust, estate planning, succession planning advice, probate matters and court of protection work. 

Known for a calm, clear and personable approach, Megan helps individuals and families plan confidently for the future and navigate the legal complexities that follow a bereavement.

Megan has extensive experience in private client matters, with a strong focus on tailored estate and succession planning for both UK-based and international clients. Her work includes the preparation of comprehensive and legally robust Wills, as well as advising on the effective structuring of estates to maximise tax efficiency and achieve long-term succession goals. Megan also advises executors and families throughout the entirety of the probate and estate administration process. This involves the preparation and submission of applications for Grants of Representation to the Probate Registry, corresponding with HM Revenue & Customs in relation to inheritance tax, income tax and capital gains tax, and overseeing the realisation and distribution of estate assets. Throughout this process, Megan provides practical guidance and reassurance to families during what is often a challenging time. Megan assists clients with the implementation and ongoing administration of trust structures. Advising on all elements of trust management, including trust taxation, distributions to beneficiaries, the appointment and retirement of trustees, and compliance with regulatory and registration obligations. Ensuring that trustees are properly supported in fulfilling their fiduciary duties and that trust arrangements remain appropriate and effective over time. Megan also has extensive experience assisting elderly and vulnerable clients. Her work includes the preparation and registration of Lasting Powers of Attorney with the Office of the Public Guardian, providing guidance in relation to the management of personal and financial affairs, and matters with the Court of Protection. She approaches this area of her practice with particular sensitivity, ensuring that the dignity, autonomy and best interests of her clients remain paramount.

Recent work includes

  • Dealing with estates subject to double trust structures and existing home loan schemes.
  • Setting up will trusts, including interest in possession and discretionary trusts.
  • Advising the Executors of an estate with compliance investigations with HM Revenue and Customs along with assisting in negotiations with the Direct Valuer.
  • Registering charitable Will Trusts with the Charity Commission.
  • Assisting trustees in settling historic tax charges with HM Revenue and Customs, including successfully waiving penalties and interest.
  • Assisting Trustees with the ongoing administration of trusts, including obtaining relevant tax refunds for the trust beneficiaries from HM Revenue and Customs
  • Acting in the administration of a high net worth estate with multi-jurisdictional assets and beneficiaries.
  • Implementing post death variations to the Will of a deceased client, to maximise tax saving opportunities for the beneficiaries of the estate and the next generation.
  • Successfully arranging the artwork created by a deceased client to be donated to a top UK Russell Group university where the material is taught in academic study.
  • Acting in the administration of estate in receipt of various royalties and successfully arranging the transfer to several charitable institutions.
  • Advising clients with homes in multi jurisdictions as to their residency status following the 2024 Autumn Budget and changes to the domicile regime.

Career to date

Megan joined Lee Bolton Monier Williams in 2018 from a South West London law firm where she trained. She is also a fully qualified Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) having completed her STEP diploma with the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners in 2023. She is also an accredited member of the Lifetime Lawyers Association.
