Ban on evictions extended

Ban on evictions extended

On 10 March 2020, the Government extended the moratorium commercial forfeiture to 30 June 2021 and bailiff enforced eviction ban extended to 31 May to protect residential tenants.  Whilst this may be welcome news for some, both landlords and tenants should be aware that in the absence of any agreement, rent and other sums due under the lease remain payable. Many of our landlord and tenant clients opened a dialogue last year and agreed rent concessions – be that suspensions or deferrals up to and beyond 31 March 2021. These arrangements should revisited and extended if necessary.

Despite this moratorium there are still opportunities for both landlords and tenants. More information can be found in our paper “Commercial Leases and Covid-19: Risks and Opportunities for Landlords and Tenants” or do contact us directly to discuss your options.”
