Domain Name Recoveries - Nominet & ICANN

Domain names are cheap and relatively simple to register.

Since registries make no checks outside sunrise periods to ensure the registrant is the rightful owner of the name or the trade mark or goodwill, domain names are an easy target for infringers or competitors seeking to trade off your hard-earned reputation by registering a domain name which is identical or confusingly similar to your trade mark, brand, business or company name – and without your knowledge.   The risks have increased with the massive expansion of available trade or business-related TLDs.

Nominet is the official domain name registry for .uk domain names and provides dispute resolution procedures for .uk names and WIPO operates the ICANN Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy – UDRP - for many top level domain names including .com .org and .net and many country code domain names.

Our IP team successfully obtains the return of domain names through both Nominet and ICANN and will advise on the preferred procedures and run them for you, providing a highly effective alternative to litigation.
