Data Protection & Freedom of Information
The Information Commissioner can impose fines of up to £500,000 for loss of personal data. It takes just a simple complaint from a disgruntled applicant for the ICO to request full answers, details and information from the respondent.
Our IP lawyers regularly advise:
- public, private and church sector bodies on compliance, on obligations to protect data and what steps to take if data is lost or hacked, how to respond to subject access requests,
- public sector bodies including schools and Dioceses on their obligations under the Freedom of Information Act
- and private sector bodies on how to use the right to FoI disclosure to tactical advantage - there are tactical considerations unique to each client and each request.
We work with our employment lawyers to draft data protection policies to suit our clients' requirements.
