New school safeguarding rules: what you need to know

The Government has launched a Consultation on proposed changes to statutory safeguarding guidance, “Keeping children safe in education” 2021. The deadline for submissions is 8 March 2022.

The proposed changes include asking schools to consider carrying out an online search, including of social media, of shortlisted candidates when recruiting new members of staff; making guidance on child-on-child abuse statutory; and advising all governors and trustees to receive appropriate and regularly updated safeguarding and child protection training at induction.

LBMW will be contributing to the consultation and once the new guidance is published we will offer one of our popular webinars for school leaders and trustees on the key changes.
